Llangorse Lake

I have just returned from a trip to Llangorse and anybody considering a similar venture may find the following information useful. Llangorse is unfortunately a shadow of its former self mainly due to nettings that have taken place in past years, but at last it seems that the situation may be improving and the owners have begun to take the steps needed to maintain a healthy balance of pike.

New guidelines have been drawn up regarding restricted areas (detailed in Pikelines issue 87?) to put it simply any powered craft are requested not to enter the shallow weedy areas on the west side and to keep clear of the reed fringed margins. A map of the restrictions is available on site.
In the past I have caught good numbers of fish from these areas but on this trip found it possible to catch from the other areas of the lake.

If you are camping all facilities are present, toilets/showers shop cafe and a bar. The setup is suitable for families but do phone and pre-book especially in the busier months.

One of the main problems for anglers are the powerboats and skiers, in general they show no respect for other users and will often come crashing through your swim, a Life jacket is a must!. Power boats are not permitted on the water on Sundays from 11am to 5pm.

On my recent visit we arrived during the August bank holiday weekend, weather had been very hot and sunny, but began to change on our first day. It was mixed hot and sunny weather with very heavy showers and a steady SE wind. We searched for the pike trolling but due to coloured water things were a bit slow with only a few fish to trolled lures, most on cast lures. We began picking fish up high in the water around Crannog island and the numbers began to mount slowly. All my fish took a large jointed believer and although I did have a few follows to various jerkbaits could not catch on anything else. During the weekend I caught 10 fish mostly jacks, looking through my diary I have caught 58 fish from my last four trips here all jacks apart from 8 doubles to 17lb. So you can see the chance of catching something big is slim but I enjoyed the break and the sport. If you are not into catching big fish then this place is as good as any.All methods are allowed and I have caught on both live and dead baits.
