Chasewater

Description
Chasewater, overseen by Lichfield County Council is a large water situated near Cannock Chase. At around 400 acres it is used for a variety of activities, including sailing, wind surfing, water skiing and fishing.
The water is usually quite clear, making all methods of predator fishing effective. At the time of writing this article the water level at Chasewater has been lowered for maintenance purposes so the depths plumbed will differ when the water resumes its normal level.
Access to swims is usually quite good with parking close by.
There have been reports of some good pike being caught over recent years and last year a 40lb catfish was caught.
If you plan to fish opposite the dam then its worth noting what time the gate opens for car access as you may find yourself with a long walk round to the other side.

Tactics
As I have already mentioned the water here is usually quite clear, so all methods work. Lures work well, especially jerkbaits, as our own secretary Charles Sargent found out on a recent visit.
Dead baits also work well and have been catching quite a few fish from different areas of the water. As for baits and methods I have found that drifted and ledgered baits tend to catch the most fish, with smelt, herring and lamprey taking a lot of fish recently.
